Below is a small sampling of comments that were posted to the Citizens Petition to STOP SFMTA.
#1906 Mar 19, 2013 SF, CA
SFMTA is accountable to no one.... By making SFMTA independent it has become arrogant, nonresponsive to the citizens. It is constantly looking to increase parking fees and residential parking stickers because it can't/won't balance its budget, while at the same time giving out millions in free passes to students it can't afford while the bus maintenance program falls further and further behind.....They are clueless and radical in their agenda. These days they also seem to be nothing more than a mouthpiece for the SF Bicycle Coalition.....look at the proposals the SFMTA drafted for the Polk St. Demonstration Project: all radical proposals meant to benefit bicyclists and not the general public and neighborhood. We need a ballot proposition to put SFMTA BACK UNDER CITY CONTROL !

How about we try managing our transportation budget more efficiently rather than taking even more money than necessary of common citizens in SF.
#1683 Mar 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Why can cyclists ignore Stop signs? Why aren't they ticketed? Why does City government destroy Sunday downtown shopping, or as well as discourage neighborhood shopping? Why does USF or Target or any other major "magnet: get to build buildings without building more parking spaces?
#1682 Mar 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Fix the budgeting office, not robbing the citizen.
#1681 Mar 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Sunday metering has the effect of decreasing business in the city, all for a negligible amount of meter revenue. Perhaps a better examination of the MUNI cost structure would yield operational improvement.
#1680 Mar 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
No new meters. It will keep people out of our City, and businesses.
#1678 Mar 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
stop enforcing sunday metered parkings and installing new meters
#1675 Mar 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
please STOP SFMTA from removing Polk Street parking!!

I work and have to drive in the city, I am out for blood with lowest form of life on this planet
#1666 Mar 10, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Parking fees throughout the city are already ridiculous (along with rising prices in rentals and property values). So, to add to the gentrification and severe inflation of the economy in San Francisco, parking meters are now enforced on Sundays along with a potential pilot to push metered durations to beyond 6PM? Is the issue really turnover for parking spots or is it just about money? Parking is an issue regardless of metered parking. Even today, on Sunday in the Mission, I had to search for a parking spot in the same manner I did before meter enforcement. I see no difference, only more money out of my pocket.

$501 dollars for a simple tow is outrageous.
#1633 Feb 26, 2013 san francisco, CA
we love SF , but it is getting harder and harder to live in SF. Meter everywhere, making people stressful everyday. We can't find parking around my location, now even Sunday start charing . This will drive us out of SF. Please thinking about it . stop!!!!!!
#1627 Feb 26, 2013 San Francisco, CA
SF may be a transit-first city, but it is not a transit-only city. Stop the meter creep!
#1625 Feb 26, 2013 San Francisco, CA
No more meters! Meter enforcement on Sunday is ridiculous enough!
#1612 Feb 24, 2013 San Francisco, CA
I grew up here and am shocked and saddened by the changes that have taken place over the last 10 years. One significant factor is that SFMTA is systematically destroying our quality of life.
#1607 Feb 20, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Please stop treating automobile drivers like we are the enemy. We would all love to take public transportation all the time, but sometimes we need a car...
#1600 Feb 20, 2013 San Francisco, CA
We respectfully request that the Mayor and District Supervisors immediately stop the SFMTA from: 1. Installing new parking meters and extending the hours of enforcement 2. Enforcing Sunday parking meters 3. Increasing meter rates, fees and fines
#1599 Feb 20, 2013 San Francisco, CA
With Muni being as dirty, unreliable, and unsafe as it is now, "Transit First" is a fantasy. I cannot imagine having my kids ride amongst the street people, juvenile delinquents, grime, and crime that is the MUNI.
#1594 Feb 19, 2013 San Feancisco, CA
SFMTA is out if control. Fines and fees are outlandish. Procedures for vehicle reclamation are idiotic (really, not just anger talking).
#1590 Feb 19, 2013 San Francisco, CA
It is ridiculous that you make it impossible to drive and park our cars anywhere in this city when MUNI does not work! I am late everyday for work because of the undependable trains that run through the Forest Hill Station. There are back ups, broken down trains and four trains going outbound for every one train going inbound. Then a single car comes, we are packed like sardines and then hit Castro where many more riders are waiting. This is all day long, everyday of the week. How are we supposed to get to where we need to get to our destination at a reasonable price and in a timely manner. It is impossible in this city when MUNI isn't run well and SFMTA is installing meters and increasing rates and adding days. Get MUNI running correctly. I am a 56 year old SF native who is seeing MUNI run the worse it's ever run. And the new bus stop shelter messages give incorrect times and do not seat as many people as the old shelters. Who are the incompetents running MUNI? Fire them and hire from staff from within who know how the organization runs!
#1589 Feb 19, 2013 San Francisco, CA
How about improving Caltrain and Muni a little sooner than 2025 so that people don't need to drive in. Build resident-only lots in mission bay so the SF taxpayers don't keep getting punished for wanting to own a means of getting out of the city once in a while.
#1587 Feb 19, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Like Bart fares, Muni's revenue increases (tickets, meter rates, garage rates, new meters, extended hours etc.) needs to be capped at inflation. STOP the gouging.
#1586 Feb 19, 2013 San Francisco, CA
SFMTA do what the heck you were created to do AND FIX MUNI first and foremost. ONCE YOU'VE done the job you WERE CREATED FOR you can work on punishing drivers of cars. BUT FIRST GET YOUR PRIORITIES straightened out OR WE WILL VOTE YOU OUT OF EXISTENCE!
#1585 Feb 18, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Increased parking meters = decreased business. I stopped eating at Lee's deli when meters went up in the neighborhood adding an extra $1 onto lunch! Public transportation usually takes 3 times longer than driving.
#1580 Feb 17, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Please respond to what the citizens of this fair city voted you to do. Do not think that your agency acts with impunity and without answering to the voters who democratically put you all in place to do the public's bidding.
#1579 Feb 17, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Improve MUNI. Totally unreliable every time I use it. Stop using parking meters as a cash cow for every city agency that needs money.
#1578 Feb 17, 2013 San Francisco,, CA
The MTA has done all it can do to make driving in San Francisco frustrating and a mess. People in neighborhoods cannot have anyone visit for fear of tickets or being towed. The MTA has created not logical and easy driving.
#1569 Feb 16, 2013 san francisco, CA
Focus on fixing muni-schedules and safety. It's impossible for me to patronize businesses in my city due to high parking costs as I need to drive my car because muni is so unreliable.
#1562 Feb 12, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Enough is enough...parking has been already extremely difficult in this city
#1560 Feb 11, 2013 San Francisco, CA
No more meters. Don't take away anymore spaces. This city is my home, where my child goes to school and where I have my business. The parking situation gets harder and more expensive each year. We deserve a break from this ever-growing burden the City has unfairly placed on the shoulders of its citizens.
#1557 Feb 10, 2013 San Francisco, CA
It is the Muni's job to move people, not wade into the morass of parking meters and their enforcement.
#1553 Feb 8, 2013 San Francisco, CA
This is obviously a racketeering scheme. Come clean or you are going to jail with them!
#1546 Feb 6, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Muni is a terrible experience and by no means should have the right to make those who have alternative means of transportation just as difficult.
#1544 Feb 6, 2013 san francisco, CA
The meter rates are so High, no one parks in metered spots? I guess you just rely on ticket revenue. Thanks a lot!
#1542 Feb 6, 2013 San Francisco, CA
Make the city responsible for mishandling funds by better budgeting NOT by picking the pockets of the citizen.
#1541 Feb 5, 2013 El Cerrito, CA
I know we are all struggling through rough times but the solution to solving the city's economic hardships is not by making it impossible and difficult for people to live or visit San Francisco. Parking meters, insane towing fees and SFMTA's ways of forcing people to part with their hard earned money is deterring people from living here, working here and even spending their money to visit.
#1538 Feb 4, 2013 San Francisco, CA
This is a disgrace ... we are being ripped off and this is making the city less and less livable!
